Church had served as Deputy Mayor of Springfield between 1986 and 1995. We don't know if Church ran for office in 1976 or had a family member who had. We do know that he worked as curator for the Paul Findley Congressional Office Museum and Archival Collection at Illinois College in Jacksonville. Church had volunteered for Findley's campaign during the seventies. Findley served the 20th District of Illinois in the U.S. House from 1961 to 1983. Another button with the colors of red, white and blue and the names Brooks, Willkie and Green goes all the way back to 1940. This was a pinback button. Wendell Willkie received the Republican Party nomination in 1940 for President, He lost the election to President Roosevelt, Illinois had all 29 electoral votes go to Roosevelt too. Willkie has no connection to Illinois; he is buried in Indiana. The others, Wayland Brooks ran for U.S. Senator and Dwight Green for governor, Illinois.
