Title A name given to the resource World War II Memorial Flag for PFC Ardell Van Over Description An account of the resource American Flag given on behalf of the United States Army to the family of Private First Class Ardell Van Over in 1952. PFC Van Over fought in World War II when he recieved wounds during the Battle of the Bulge on December 22, 1944. He passed several months later due to complications from stepping on a land mine at the battle. The flag was draped on his coffin when his body was returned in 1952. The flag has 48 stars and was possibly given to his mother. It was placed in a wooden shadowbox with a golden inscription, "Ardell Van Over PFC, 3rd Army, 438th Bat. April-Dec. 1944." This is a customary practice to give the family of a fallen soldier a flag.
