Not much else is known about which election for Mayor of Springfield it was for. Certainly, it was used as a give away type promotional item. Ossie Langfelder won the 1987 Mayoral election and held the office until 1995. He lost the election that year in his attempt for a third term. He was a Democratic candidate. Title A name given to the resource National Political Chart from the 1860 Presidential Campaign Description An account of the resource This was a political chart published probably prior to Abraham Lincoln receiving the Republican Party nomination. Charts were generally ways in which the public learned and communicated about Presidential candidates, though H. H. Lloyds & Co would have done this as a commercial product. On the frame of the chart, every President from George Washington to James Buchanan is present with their facial sketch and write-up. In the middle, all of the major candidates to be considered for their parties nomination is listed. The vice president names would have been included with corresponding discussion. Also, the Constitutional Union and Southern Democratic Party nominees are present. The Abraham Lincoln background does not stand out any more than other candidates, seemed like a dark horse. There were also text articles which included the four major party platforms. One article which stands out is on Sam Houston, exalting his abilities. Lastly, a map of the US is included for geographical orientation mostly. Richard Nixon won the election and became the first Vice President to attain the office of President since 1836. Agnew has been Governor of Maryland before becoming the 39th Vice President of the US. He had served in the Army during WW II. Nixon had like Agnew for his work with African Americans and advocating for better civil rights and jobs. The photo for this poster where both Nixon and Agnew are waiving to the audience was taken at the 1968 Republican Party National Convention. He passed away in 1970, leaving behind $800,000 of cash found in shoeboxes and strongboxes in his Springfield hotel room. Powell's legacy as an example of Illinois political corruption has been written about in Time Magazine and the Chicago Tribune as recently as 2008. President Richard Nixon is signing a bill H.R. 9798 authorizing the Abraham Lincoln Home National Historic Site. Congressman Paul Findley, of the 20th Congressional District of Illinois, is to Nixon's left in the photo. Title A name given to the resource Russian Nesting Dolls President Clinton 5 pc Description An account of the resource As a novelty item, this is a five piece hand painted nesting doll set featuring President Clinton as the tallest piece while he is in a black suit and tie. Hillary is the second smallest next to the piece depicting the horn. The theme is obviously associated with the Lewinsky-Clinton scandal. These pieces are unique for two reasons. Not many pieces of this subject matter depict the characters faces as does the Church collection. Not many of these types were made based on my search results. Therefore, not much is known about who made them or when, but it was probably around 1997. Nesting dolls are a cultural phenomenon in Russia where they started out honoring their past presidents, but after the fall of the Soviet Union, an interest developed to highlight American personalities and Presidents. Title A name given to the resource 1952 Stevenson Campaign Poster for President Description An account of the resource The political poster featuring the Presidential candidate Adlai Stevenson II is organized by who was running on the ticket of the 1952 presidential election for the Democratic Party. It has photos with the face of each. "Continued Prosperity" is positioned at the top. The theme was important because it carried the values of the outgoing President Harry Truman. It was something many Americans also used in their description of the post war years. Stevenson II was the 31st Governor of Illinois, and was born in Los Angeles. He ran for President in 1952 and 1956, but he was defeated both times by Dwight D. Eisenhower. Stevenson's running mate for 1952 was John C. Sparkman which is positioned at the top of the poster right of Stevenson. Sparkman served in the US Senate and House of Representatives from 1937 to 1979. He was from Alabama. Sherwood Dixon, also on the poster, ran for governor on the ticket for Illinois but lost. Others on the poster included Herbert C. Paschen and Edward Barrett. This theme was also the main slogan of his campaign found on bumper stickers and posters like this one.
