Andrew Brethorst, who has been an Illinois resident for most of his life, attended high school in New Jersey. He attended Morris-Knolls high school, and was a champion polevaulter. He was named the All Around Senior Athlete- Male in 1990. from his school. He also held the New Jersey State Record for several years before it was broken. His record still stands as the last time New Jersey has won the pole vault event at the Penn Relays. He held the New Jersey State Record in Pole Vaulting for many years.
