Slovakian Translation Dictionary
Description
John Transue was teaching English in Czechoslovakia and wanted to apply for graduate school. Transue used this dictionary to attempt to ask shopkeepers for large envelopes in order to mail his graduate application. When he would ask clerks for envelopes, they would always look at him strangely and say "no". The Slovak word for "envelope" is very similar to the word for "sky." Eventually, Transue realized that he had been mistakenly asking stores if the had "big sky" instead of "big envelopes."
