Dublin Core
Title
Lincoln Political Banner from 1860 Election
Description
This political banner for the 1860 Presidential election is likely a copy of a lithograph on linen featuring the Republican Party nominees Abraham Lincoln and Hannibal Hamlin. "The flag was meant to hang like a banner in parades and other political spectacles, so that Lincoln's face would be oriented vertically. The printer liberally changed the spelling of Lincoln's first name ("Abram") to accommodate his design." The banner contains 33 stars symbolizing how many states were in the Union.
